Sign Language Interpreter - About Me

I have over 14 years of interpreting experience of work as a British Sign Language (BSL) / English Interpreter since qualifying at Bristol University’s Centre for Deaf Studies in 1996. I have worked as a freelance interpreter, an interpreter trainer, held a lecturing position at the University of Bristol and been a course convenor for the University of Sussex. I have significant experience of assessing interpreters, mentoring interpreters, line-management responsibilities, co-ordinating and purchasing interpreting services.

I am registered by the NRCPD with Signature as a Member of the Register of Sign Language Interpreters. I am a Full Member of ASLI, the Association of Sign Language Interpreters for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. I hold A1 and V1 assessment and verification qualifications.

Since 1996 I have worked full-time as an interpreter for Deaf people, based in Uganda, Bristol, London and now Hove. My work has taken me to many other countries, Austria, Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Finland, France, India, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

I will consider many types of work, with the exception of theatre interpreting. I have a particular interest in technology, my first degree was in the social sciences (history and politics joint honors). I have a wide range of experience of interpreting in community settings, in academia, for business and commerce, the arts, for police authorities, the voluntary sector and government at both local and national levels. I have skills and experience of interpreting for Deaf children and for Deaf people who use sign languages other than BSL.

I am now a full-time employee of Neal Communication Agency.
